Building an Aquaponics farm for Orphans in Mexico

In 2010, Emattan helped to construct an aquaponics system for an orphanage, Rancho Maranatha, in Mexico. Aquaponics is a form of Aztec agriculture where the fish from the pond, produce nutrient rich water from their waste which is used to water the crops. Our system consisted of four small vegetable tables, two very large vegetable tables, and a 4500 gallon pool for the fish. Part of the set up consisted of catching our own tilapia at the local lake. After breeding, the pool can hold up to 1,500 - 2,000 tilapia. This can potentially feed 3,000-4,000 people annually, depending on various factors.
